
To finish the first round of conference play, the lady lions matched up with Ranger College and Cisco College, adding two more wins to their conference record of 5-3. Against Ranger College, the outside hitter duo of Emily Metzler and Nikaia Lydia showed out, with Metzler earning 17 kills and Lydia 15, along with 15 digs each. Freshman rightside hitter Emarei Brandon added 8 kills to the match. Sophomore setter Martyna Lewinksa played a double double match with 38 assists, 16 digs and 7 aces. Libero Kendall Toliver added 22 digs, 7 assists, and 4 aces as well to help the lions take the 5 set win: 25-10, 25-22, 20-25, 21-25, 15-12.
Against Cisco College, Lydia again again led the way offensively with 16 kills, matched by freshman middle blocker Kassidy Paul who added another 16 kills. Metzler earned 10 kills for the team, accompanied by freshman middle blocker Joy-Lece Bateman and Emarei Brandon, who each added 8 more kills. Toliver put up 21 digs, followed by Lewinska and Lydia who each recorded 20 digs. Lewinska had 50 assists in the 4 set match win over Cisco. Final scores of the match were 25-18, 25-22, 23-25, 25-23.
To start the second round of conference play, the lady lions swept SWCC at home on Saturday, October 12th. Freshman outside hitter Ava Badillo, led the lady lions with 9 kills and .444 hitting percentage, followed by Metzler and Brandon who each recorded 8 kills. Lewinksa put up 18 assists and 8 digs in the match, along with freshman setter Grace Reinhardt who contributed 12 assists and 6 digs. Finals scores of the match were 25-11, 25-13, 25-13.
The lady lions currently sit 3rd in conference play. Next up for the lady lions is a home match with Cisco College on Wednesday, October 16th at 6pm, followed by another home match vs Hill College on Saturday, October 19th at 1pm.
