
The lady lion softball team began the season with a double header against Western Texas College Saturday, February 1st at home, using the new turf fields for the first time.
Taking the game one win, 4-0, sophomore returning standouts Kylie Malone, Kacey White, Mickyna Lindsey, and Mattie Wilkie led the way offensively, each earning an RBI. High hopes are in place for the 2025 season as each of these returners were key players for NCTC softball. In the 2024 season, Malone had the one of the team's highest batting averages at .404, with 48 RBI on the year. White had a solid freshman season, as the starting pitcher for 25 games with 121 strikeouts. White also had a .315 batting average on the year. Lindsey earned a .276 batting average followed by Wilkie with a .250, each contributing highly to last year's success.
In game two in the double header with WTC, Mickyna Lindsey earned two doubles and 6 RBI for the team. Wilkie added another 3 RBI, along with freshman standout Miranda Serrato who hit her first career triple. The freshman pitching duo Kate Krebs and Abriana Coy kept the lions rolling, as the team took a second win 8-7.
On Monday, February 3rd, the lady lions added two more wins to their strong start, taking game one against Rose State College 2-0, and game two 9-3.
Next up, the team looks to play Northeast Texas Community College on February 5th, followed by another double header with Wayland Baptist University on February 7th.
