
The lion baseball team began the new season with a home series against the University of Arkansas- Rich Mountain on January 24th and 25th. After the addition of new turf to Darwin Field, lion athletics looks to host an exciting season of baseball.
Taking the first game 16-3 in 7 innings, the lions were led by a group of returners from the 2024 season. Sophomore Kevin Diaz started the team strong offensively with 3 RBI and 2 home runs. Diaz played a role for the lions in his freshman season, with a batting average of .304. Additionally, sophomore Cole Rager put up 3 RBI for the team, followed by Drew Thompson and Sean Rabe who each contributed 2 RBI, and Thompson adding one more home run to the count. As freshman, Rager contributed to 47 games, Thompson played 43 and Rabe 33.
The freshman pitching duo of Austin Kyle and Brooks Griggs-Bell made their first debut in the collegiate baseball scene, leading the lions to a great team win. Following the first game, the lions dropped the next two in the series 2-7 and 6-11. Next up, the lions faced Northeast Texas Community College on February 1st and 2nd, dropping the series to the eagles.
The lions will matchup with Butler Community College at home on February 6th and 7th for another three game series on the new turf at Darwin Field!
