Lady Lions Tennis Open Fall 2019 Season

After the first round matches, only two Lady Lions remained in the Main Draw, while the other five moved to their corresponding Consolation Draws. Natalini, on Flight C, defeated Tessa Isaac from Tabor by a score of 6-2 7-5. In the lower part of the same draw, Voogel beat Jacqueline Charvat from Oklahoma Baptist in the match tiebreaker (6-4 4-6 10-7). In the Consolation Draw, where an 8-game Pro Set was played, Martinez lost to Burr in a tight match by 7-9, while Beyer lost to Mundo 4-8, and Mendoza defeated Slade by 8-1. Besides, in Consolation A, De-Souza lost to Purdy 2-8; and Nulens (Consolation B) lost to Lumanog 4-8.

 

Doubles matches started on Friday afternoon. First on were Natalini/Mendoza (Flight B) who defeated Do Lago/Hoekstra from Cowley by the score of 8-4. On Flight A, De Souza/Nulens lost to Mackova/Santiago from Emporia State in tie break by 8-9(4), while Voogel/Beyer lost to Moosbacher/Dowling from Oklahoma Baptist by 1-8, and Martinez/Sloan(ESU) lost to Dreps/Phan from Southwestern by 5-8 (Flight C).

 

On Saturday morning, Natalini defeated Erica Paradise from McPherson in a tough match by the score of 7-5 7-6(0), while Voogel did the same to Chloe Do Lago from Cowley, winning by 7-6(3) 6-1. Meanwhile, on Consolation C, Mendoza lost to Mundo (2-8). One-hour break, and the first semifinal of Flight C would be played between Natalini and Voogel, where the latter secured her spot in the final after defeating her teammate by the score of 6-4 6-4. After the final, Voogel took the second place by losing to Mirella Calvalcanti by the score of 2-6 4-6. Back to the doubles matches, where Natalini/Mendoza reached the semifinals after defeating Meyer/Caceras of Emporia State by 8-6; then, they lost to Calvalcanti/Bifano from Newman by the score of 2-8. On Consolation A, De Souza/Nulens lost to Leonard/Lumanog by the score of 7-9, and Voogel/Beyer lost to Gaviria/Gerasimova by 6-8. Besides, Martinez/Sloan(ESU) became champions of Consolation C after winning three matches, losing only eight games in total.

 

The Lady Lions won a total of 13 matches -8 Singles and 5 Doubles- and brought home a silver and a bronze medal (Voogel and Natalini respectively). Next stop is OKC Collegiate Invitational, on September Friday 13th and Saturday 14th.
