Sean Lonergan enters his third season at North Central Texas College after coaching for ten years at Stephen F. Austin University. During his time at SFA he established the sprints/hurdles and distance groups as one of the strongest in the Southland Conference. 

In 2013, Lonergan coached Class Brown-Steward to his second Southland Conference Title Outdoors in the 400 Meters, which saw him finish seventh at the NCAA Championship and be named a first team All-American by USTFCCCA. The men's 4x400m relay also qualified for the championship meed earning All-America honorable mention. 

For his efforts and successes in 2013, Lonergan was named the USTFCCCA South Central Region Men's Assistant Coach of the Year.

Lonergan produced 23 scoring marks in his first season on campus at SFA, set nine school records, eight NCAA Regional qualifying marks, an NCAA provisional qualifying performance and he helped turn former Lumberjack Chris Moody into a conference champion, and school-record holder. He continued to produce conference titles, school records, and NCAA qualifying marks in the years to come including 28 Individual champions and 2 SLC Freshman of the Year. 

Prior to SFA he was one of the top prep high school coaches in the state of Texas for 13 seasons. He spent four seasons at Denton Guyer High School where he served as an assistant football coach and the boys' head track and field coach. During his time at Guyer, Lonergan coached the program to its first district title, while the mile relay was a state medalist. He has also spent time at Sanger and Stephenville High Schools. 

Lonergan graduated from Adrian College in 1975, where he was a two-sport athlete. He was a two-time All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association swimmer, and member of two MIAA Championship football teams. Lonergan is a 2000 inductee into the Adrian College Hall of Fame.
