Goodwin Collects Four Hits As North Central Texas College Defeats Vernon College

Tanner Goodwin collected four hits in five at bats, as North Central Texas College defeated Vernon College 16-8 on Wednesday. Goodwin singled in the second, doubled in the fourth, doubled in the sixth, and singled in the ninth.

An early lead helped propel North Central Texas College to victory. North Central Texas College scored on a single by Tyrese Clayborne in the first inning, a single by Goodwin in the second inning, and a double by Clay Stevens in the second inning.

Vernon College evened things up at one in the bottom of the first inning. Tackman doubled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run.

After North Central Texas College scored one run in the top of the fifth, Vernon College answered with one of their own. North Central Texas College scored when Kemuel Thomas-Rivera hit a solo homer. Vernon College then answered when Tajta hit a solo homer.

North Central Texas College pulled away for good with three runs in the second inning. In the second Goodwin singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs and Stevens doubled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run.

Walsh took the loss for Vernon College. He went five innings, allowing seven runs on 11 hits, striking out three and walking one.

Stevens went 5-for-6 at the plate to lead North Central Texas College in hits. North Central Texas College was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Bloom had the most chances in the field with eight.

Vernon College totaled 11 hits. Tackman and Tajta each collected multiple hits for Vernon College. Tackman led Vernon College with three hits in five at bats.
